From 17 till 29 August 2024, Professor Blaženka Divjak visited the University of Pretoria in South Africa.

Most importantly, Professor Divjak held a very well-accepted invited lecture at the 10th Flexible Futures conference. In the lecture, entitled Reimagining Assessment: Leveraging Learning Analytics and Learning Design in the AI Era, she discussed the role of AI in education, the roles of decision-makers in its understanding and meaningful application, and the use of AI to solve problems while being aware of its shortcomings. Furthermore, she talked about the skills, competences and values required to achieve this, stressing the role of appropriate assessment methods. She also presented the relevant research and developmental work of the LA Lab, focusing on learning analytics and learning design, including two ongoing projects: iLED and TRUELA

Furthermore, Professor Divjak held several workshops, at different faculties, on learning design and the Balanced Design Planning (learning-design.eu) tool developed by the LA Lab. The workshops, well-visited by the University staff, inspired rich discussions on the use of technology to improve teaching and learning, and opened up new possibilities for mutual research work.

Professor Divjak also met the national team working on the development of engineering studies curricula, and participated in a number of bilateral meetings.
